My grandmother placed some handwritten notes in the Casey family bible showing that Henry "Hal" Casey married Jane Barton July 29, 1816 in Morgan County, Georgia. The note further states that Jane had a brother named John Barton who was buried in the Asa Prior Cemetery on Tan Yard Branch in Cedartown, Polk County, GA. Another note states that Henry Casey was living in Tallapoosa County, AL when his wife died when his son James Henry Casey was about six months. Knowing that James Henry was born in February of 1830, I assume that Jane's death date was in 1829. I have no other information on this family, but would love to know more about my Barton ancestors.

great site!!! "cousin". My William Barton was born about 1800 in North Carolina, I believe in Orange Co. He died 1860 in Fayette Co. In 1843 he gave his portion of his deceased father's land (John Barton of Orange Co.,) to Lemuel Carroll, whom I believe to be Williams' brother in law. I believe William married Sarah Carroll. So, I think John Barton is my gggg grandfather. Believe he married Nelly Thompson in 1793. John may have had brothers James and Thomas Barton of Orange Co. I would think someone has encountered this line and can link me up. I have extensive Barton lineage from William Barton and willing to share information with my fellow cousins. Greetings from Tennessee.

Ended up in Patrick County when it was formed out of Henry. Had two son from 1st marriage (probably a Sharp) Thomas and Sharp. Thomas moved to Cumberland County, KY and Sharp moved to Jackson County, OH after their father's death abt 1809. 2nd marriage to Seppy Russell produced many girls and one son William, Jr. I am not sure where William, Jr went after his father's death.  Probably there is some connection with the Staffordshire Bartons, but I can't find the clue.

Since I posted on this site about 2 months ago seeking info. on my greatgrandfather, James Garvin Barton (b.July 8,1847 in SC) I was able to find the names of his parents on his Confederate pension application. His parents were Shapley Barton and Elizabet Montgomery of Greenville Co.SC. Having these names has led me to the extensive research done on the Greenville,SC Bartons by a number of people and also in the Barton book. Some researchers have nothing on James Garvin Barton beyond his name and an approximate birth year. And some others (I believe they may have obtained their info. from the Barton Book) along with the Barton Book have James Garvin Barton, son of Shapley Barton and Elizabeth Montgomery married to a woman named Fannie with children Horace Stafford, and Lyda. This is incorrect. James Garvin Barton, son of Shapley Barton and Elizabeth Montgomery of Greenville SC married Angeline Hawkins Blackston (a widow) on April 25, 1882 in Forsyth Co.GA. They had a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Barton, born o June 25, 1889 in Gordon Co.GA. Mary Elizabeth Barton (Smith) was my maternal grandmother. I would like to hear from any Barton researchers who would care to comment on this. Please e-mail me at themajors@mindspring.com.

Lloyd, Clara, Joe Claude, Robert, Mildred Lavonia, Julia Louella, Eunice Urcilia, Bertha, Clara and one child that died in infancy. They are from Georgia, around the Henry County area, I think. James Obed died approximately late 1920's or early 1930's.

He had sons named Benjamin, William, and Bailey. Based on these names and dates, I think he may be the Thomas Barton who was a son of Benjamin Barton and Dorcas Anderson. Thomas married Elizabeth Ransom in AL in 1832. His first wife may have been Sally Boyd (WFT V.13,#168). I'd love to hear from anyone who knows this family and can comment on (or maybe even verify!) my conclusions. Thanks, Elizabeth
