NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TEXAS

October, 1998

From Elton:   lpugh@cbt.net

I'm tracking down Green(e) Thomas BARTON for a friend. He doesn't know who Green's parents were. Green(e) Thomas Barton, born around 1840's, resided in Nacogdoches County, TX, and in western Louisiana.  He does know that Green had a daughter named Sally who married Russell Browning DuPree. He believes Green Thomas Barton fought for the Confederacy either in Texas or in Louisiana.

Thanks for any help.       Elton (for Jess Baldridge)

Elton,
I was just going through my hard copy notes and came up with the following:

According to Lottie Lorene Barton, Jeremiah..."Jerry" and Mary Ann named one of their sons John Chambers. They also had Mary Jane, Ruben Cook, Isaac Anderson and GREEN THOMAS.

Jeremiah Barton was from the Isaac Barton/Nancy Snow clan.

Elton,

I dug a little deeper in my hard copy notes and found the following:

1 Sarah Malisa Barton (b. 1855)  md. Russell Browning Dupree.
Sarah was the daughter of William Green Barton (b.1825 - 1883) who md. Rhoda Isabell Hughes (b. 1830 - 1885) William Green was the son of Isaac Barton who md. Nancy Snow.

8-1988 snail mail from Charles McBee:

"I...looked up the census for 1850 in Texas and found the Nations family in Nacogdoches Co., TX.
I can only presume that Wm. & Bethania [Barton] picked up these children [the Nations children] on their way from Miss. [see Yalobusha Co.] to Upshur Co., TX in the mid-1850's.  A real curiosity as to what happened to BOTH [Nations] parents around 1853-4.

According to Terry rockingbird@juno.com, who is a descendant of Joseph Nation and Pheobe Barton, the Nations in Nacogdoches Co. were realted to her Gonzales Co., TX Nation family.  The Joseph Nation Family followed the same migratory path from Jackson Co., GA 1805 land lottery to Jefferson Co., AL then on to Yalobusha Co., MS.
