Rhea County, Tennessee

In 1790, David (son of Daniel (son of William) & Sarah Dempsey) and Jamima Murphree (daughter of William C. Cornelius & Ann Phillips) were in Pendleton District, SC.  By 1808, they had moved to Rhea Co. TN. About 1818, the Murphrees moved to AL, where David was Justice of the Peace in Blount County.  In 1819, David received government land in Walker County and in 1822 served as Justice of the Peace in Jefferson County, AL.  About 1835, David Murphree, his wife, Jemima Cornelius, & many of their children and grandchildren came to Airmount, east of Coffeeville, MS.   His last move was to Yalobusha Co., MS, but his son Martin moved to Old Town, Calhoun, MS.

  3. Anderson MURPHREE (b. 1800, Anderson, Pendleton District, SC; d. 1801-1890)
  4. Rowland Jennings MURPHREE (b. 1803, Anderson, Pendleton District, SC; d. 1855)
  5. Matilda MURPHREE (b. 7-10-1806, Washington, Rhea, TN; d. 8-6-1896, Coffeeville, MS)
  6. Bethania "Thany" MURPHREE (b. Abt. 1808, Washington, Rhea, TN; d. 1822-1902) md. WILLIAM BARTON, 1825-1855.
  7. Solomon MURPHREE (b. 7-29-1810, Washington, Rhea, TN; d. 11-16-1864) md. Sarah Frances BROWN, 12-13-1832.  
  8. Samuel Merritt MURPHREE (b. 11-4-1812, Washington, Rhea, TN; d. 3-25-1830) md. Phoebe NATIONS, 3-25-1830.
  9. Editha "Edey" MURPHREE (b. 2-9-1815, Washington, Rhea, TN; d. 7-14-1859) md. John H. HELLUMS, 1829-1853.
  10. Martha Jemima "Patsy" MURPHREE (b. 1816, Washington, Rhea, TN; d. 1845) md. Alfred Gallatin VICKERY, 1832.
