I am interested in the family of John and Elizabeth Barton who lived in Randolph Co., NC late in the 18th century. Their children are believed to be:

  1. John (m. Catherine?)
  2. Molly
  3. Willis
  4. William (m. Ruth Underwood of Chatham Co., NC)
  5. Sarah Barton (m. John Ferguson; also mother of John, William and Archibald Ferguson)
  6. Catherine (aka Caty) Barton (m. John Reed; also mother of Elizabeth Reed Taylor).

William and Ruth and their children left NC and migrated to Kentucky where some of their children married. Most of their children continued north to Posey Co., IN. In later generations some went west to Saline Co., Illinois and other locations.

My gggg-grandmother was Phoebe Barton b. 1760. She married Joseph Nation, Jr. in 1775. They had 10 children, at least two of which (twins) were born in Pendleton Co. SC. Their first child, Bayless Nations (also listed as Bails Nation) was born in Randolph Co. NC in 1782. This was my ggg-grandfather. I have info on the descendants of these people. What I don't have is info on Phoebe Barton. Any help is appreciated.

Benjamin Barton married Lucy Wellborn (B. May 20,1761 in Randolph Co., NC) on March 10, 1779 in Wilkes Co., NC.   She was the daughter of William Wellborn, Jr. and Hephzibah Starnes/Stearns.
