I am looking for Chaney Barton Warren Stone. He was born in Wilkes County, GA March 15, 1813. He married Salina Jane Henly in Tuscaloosa County Al, January 15, 1838. Their children were James Dave, Effie H. Benjamin W., Clarisa, Elizabeh, and Richard all born in Alabama.

I believe Chaney is the brother of my ggggrandmother Mary Polly Stone. There are many Chaney/Barton/Warren/Stone marriages. I am looking for his parents as well as siblings.

The information that I've found on the other Chaney/Barton/Warren/Stones marriages is what I've found on the internet. I can't find any connection to the CBW Stone I am looking for in any of this information.

There are several Stone marriages in Tuscaloosa County including my ggggrandmother** that my cousins and I who are researching this believe are brother and sisters:

CHANEY BARTON WARREN; ELIZABETH; MARTHA; NANCY; AND MARY POLLY STONE**.

The Chaney/Barton/Warren connection came before the above were born, but I don't think many generations before.  I have found: Hezekiah Chaney Sr's family. Daughters Elizabeth married to Stephen Stone; Chatherine to Richard Stone; Mary to Joel Stone.

Thomas Warren 1652 England married to Mary Barton. Their children were Elizabeth; Sarah; Thomas; and Barton Warren. There were also Stones mentioned on the Website where I found this, but not the right ones.

Also, I found a query on the Alabama RootsWeb page that mentions George Washington; Benjamin Franklin; and Thomas Jefferson Barton and Chaney Barton Warren Stone in the same query. The person's email address is no longer good so I can't find any answers to that one.

Most of the information came from GenForum or these two sites:

http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/1976/ - BARTON SITE
http://www.inficad.com/~cingram/warren/warren.htm - WARREN SITE  [Lists a will for Barton Warren]

I am aware of the Christian movement with Barton Warren Stone, but don't know of any connection. The only thing I (we) know is our ggggrandmother's name, birthplace as Wilkes Co., Georgia and date of 1806, and the land records having CBW Stone with land holdings next to my ggggrandfather and ggggrand uncle. Also, with the marriage records of Alabama listing all the Stone marriages so close together date wise, we are fairly sure they are related.

Lionel,

I have been really puzzling over your query [about Larkin Barton of Macon Co., GA] because the name Larkin rings a bell. It seems to me I have data that mentions a will in which Larkin was named as a grandchild of a man with the last name of Burke, along with Clary Fortune Barton and a few others [Added file above]. I checked my Macon Co. file and found nothing particularly useful. The 1850 census lists a Louisa Barton, age 22, b. GA; a James M. Barton, age 22, b. GA; and a Thomas Barton, age 23, b. GA.

In checking different census records, I found a Larkin in 1830 Meriwether Co., GA. I'm searching through different records as I write this. There's a note which says Larkin Barton md. Lucy Burkes and had Gibson, Caroline, Elizabeth, Martha, Fanny and Clary Fortune.  The 1840 Meriwether Co., GA census lists a William G. Barton.  Following is the 1850 Meriwether Co. census:

#1144 William G. Barton 36; SC

I do have a reference in Meriwether Co. [hard copy] files to Columbia Co., AR and the 1880 soundex record for Larkin which I'd be glad to send you if you don't already have it.

Also, there's a reference to Wilkes Co., GA.  Upon sifting through my Wilkes Co. notes, I see Larkin Barton recorded in the Tax Digest for 1809. He's also recorded in the Tax Digest in 1816.

Finally I found what I originally remembered about Larkin. In 1824 a Joseph Burkes of Wilkes Co., GA mentions his grandchildren in his will: Gibson Barton, Caroline Barton, Elizabeth Ann Matilda Barton, Martha Washington Barton, Fanny Barton and Clary Fortune Barton, the children of his son-in-law, Larkin Barton who md. his dau., Lucy.

Debby

Update:  I've seen Larkin Barton listed as a child of Benjamin and Lucy (Welborn) Barton from one source, but last week a second source contacted me with this same information. Please check out the Benjamin Barton family tree she submitted and scroll down until you come to Larkin's section.
