Text of obituaries found in the Seymour Family Bible sent by Lee Strohm Harrell:
"Mrs. Ellen Seymour, nee Barton, who died at the residence of her son-in-law, J. F. Terrell, in Seymourville, last Friday night, was the wife of the late John K. Seymour, a native of Memphis, Tenn., but a resident of Louisiana for fifty years. She was the oldest sister of E. D. Barton, who died very suddenly in the parish of St. James three years ago. She was the mother of nine children, four of whom are living today, two sons and two daughters. She was an excellent mother, always good and kind, and was highly esteemed by all with whom she came in contact. At the time of her death she had reached the ripe age of 85 years, yet those who knew her and loved her consider that she was taken from them too soon."
"Mrs. Ellen Seymour, after a lingering illness of six weeks, died at 5 o'clock yesterday evening at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. F. Terrell, in Seymourville. She had lived to the good, old age of 85 years and passed away in great peace. The funeral took place from the Methodist Church this evening at 4 o'clock, and was largely attendend. May she rest in peace."

Obituary text sent by Lee Strohm Harrell:
The Iberville South
Plaquemine, Louisiana
Saturday, November 6, 1880
"Mr. John K. Seymour, died on the Evergreen plantation of Dr. J. P. R. Stone in this parish, on the 20th of October 1880. He was born in Lynchburg, Halifax Co., Virginia, in the year 1811, and was aged 68 years and 11 months at the time of his death. When 21 years old he left home and went to Tennessee, where he married. He came to Louisiana in 1848. For 42 years of his life he was engaged in agricultural pursuits.
Mr. Seymour, in all walks of life was one of nature's noblemen--a true gentleman--like the French knight, Bayard, 'sans peur et sans reproche.' He was beloved by all who knew him intimately and among both rich and poor he had a host of friends. He died as he had lived--a thorough Christian--cheerful and willing to meet his Redeemer and with prayer upon his lips.
His family loses in him, a model husband and an affectionate father and his friends one as true as steel."

C., born November 10, 1829, and is the son of William and Sallie (Carroll) Barton, both natives of the "Old North State" in which they were married...Elijah Donald Barton, the fourth in order of birth of sixteen children, received a very liberal education in Tennessee and when seventeen years of age went to Marshall county, Miss., to attend school. This plantation is now owned by Clarence Barton, son of subject...In 1882 he moved to his present plantation, "St. Claire," which he had purchased in April, 1879. He has in this plantation 500 arpents of very fine land. His sugar house was destroyed by fire several years ago, but he has since rebuilt and now has one of the best open kettle sugar houses in the state. On the 18th of December, 1852, he married Miss Clara Smith, a native of Connecticut, who died in Assumption parish May 17, 1869. To this union were born eigth children--seven sons and one daughter--five sons and the daughter yet living. Carroll is half owner of Magnolia plantation in Assumption parish, and is a very extensive planter; Ernest H. is a planter in both Assumption and St. James parishes, owning St. Emma plantation in Assumption, and leases Minnie plantation in St. James; Herbert W. is an extensive planter of Terre Bonne parish on Wood Lawn plantation; Clarence C. carries on Little Texas and Hermitage plantations in Assumption parish; Walter manages St. Emma plantation for his brother Ernest H. The daughter is at home. Mr. Barton was married again on October 15, 1873, taking for his wife Ella Connelly, who died at Trinity plantation January 9, 1880, leaving four children. Only three survive the mother, two daughters and one son. March 24, 1881, he married his last wife, Lucy Kittredge, daughter of the late Dr. E. E. Kittredge, who bore him four children--two sons and two daughters. Mr. Barton is a member of the Episcopal church, and in politics has always been a democrat as was his father before him.
ELIJAH DONALD and CLARA PACKARD (SMITH) BARTON were burried at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, Napoleonville, Assumption Parish, Louisiana

Carroll Barton is one of the foremost planters of Assumption parish, La., and Magnolia plantation, of which he is the owner, is one of the most magnificent pieces of land to be found in this section of the country. This plantation is located nine miles below Donaldsonville on the right bank of the Lafourche bayou and comprises 3,000 acres of land, deriving its name from the many fine magnolia trees on the place. A large portion of the land is in an excellent state of cultivation, and the entire place is managed and looked after by Mr. Barton, who is the thorough master of his calling...In 1876 Mr. Barton married Miss Carrie Kittredge, a daughter of Dr. E. E. Kittredge, at one time the most extensive sugar planter in the state and very wealthy. To Mr. and Mrs. Barton two sons and two daughters have been born, but these children were left motherless in 1890. In 1891 he married Miss Blanche Kemper of St. Mary parish. Mr. Barton is of that stuff of which noble and useful citizens are made and would be an acquisition to any locality in which he might choose to locate. He is a member of the Knights of Honor, in which order he is a useful and honored member.

He received his education in the University of Virginia and graduated in national law, languages, etc. He read law for some time with the intention of following that profession, but gave it up and turned his attention to sugar planting. In 1876 he became assistant manager of Trinity plantation, Assumption parish, and there remained until 1879, when he came to St. James parish. Here he managed St. Claire plantation until 1887, and then leased Minnie plantation from his aunt, Mrs. L. Himel, and has conducted that since. In 1891 he purchased St. Emma plantation in Ascension parish, consisting of 1,583 acres with 1,000 acres ready for cultivation, and he has a sugar house with all the latest improved devices for making refined sugar. His brother Walter is his agent and carries on this plantation. Mr. Barton received the appointment as member of the levee board and is holding that position at the present time. In 1879 he married Miss Bertha Beasley, daughter of J. W. Beasley, a very successful sugar planter of Assumption parish, and this union has been blessed by the birth of one son and two daughters. Mr. Barton is a staunch democrat in his political views.

HORRIBLE AND HEART-RENDING ACCIDENT A Boy Shoots Himself Dead with a Fowling Piece.
Norwood Barton, a most interesting and gifted lad of twelve summers and the third son of E.D. Barton, Esq., of the parish of Assumption, accidentally shot himself dead with a shotgun on Wednesday evening last about 5 o'clock. Young Norwood had gone into the woods with his two little brothers, aged respectively seven and nine years, and a colored boy somewhat older, in search of the cows, which he was in the habit of driving home at night, taking his gun along, as usual, for the purpose of hunting. Not succeeding in finding the cows, he mounted a stump, in order to obtain a better view of the pasture. In doing so, he let the gun slip from his hand, with the muzzle pointing upward towards his breast. It fell against the side of the stump in such a manner as to explode a cap and discharge the whole contents of one of the barrels into his right lung, killing him almost instantly. His only words were addressed to one of his little brothers: "Herbert, run to the house quick, and tell ma I've shot myself dead." Several workmen, who were engaged in chopping wood a short distance off, hastened to the spot just as the unfortunate lad was breathing his last. They bore his lifeless and bleeding body to the house and into the room of his heart-broken mother and father, whose almost tearless agony, added to the speechless grief and anguish of the younger members of the family, thus early, and in so sudden and awful a manner bereft of their darling brother, playmate and friend, constituted a scene which it was, indeed, most painful to witness. N.O. Times.
