The following families are descendants of Benjamin Barton [son of David and Ruth (Oldham) Barton] who md. *Lucy Wellborn 10-10-1779:

In a letter dated 2-13-1989, Jimmie Alford states, "My 3rd great grandmother was Jerusha (Barton) Yell..." In this same letter Jimmie states that Jerusha had a brother, Abner Barton. Jimmie sent the above list of children for Jerusha. After receiving her letter, I looked Jerusha and Abner up in the census indexes.
Abner Barton was listed in the 1830 Bedford Co., TN census living near James Yell. He was in the 1840/50/60 Coffee Co., TN census reports. I don't have any details on any of these reports except the 1860 census.

According to a letter from Ruth Coleman dated 9-1988, David and Ruth (Oldham) Barton's son, Benjamin, moved from Franklin Co., GA to Bedford Co., TN by 1808 and finally on to Lauderdale Co., AL before 1820. Benjamin had a son named William Starnes Barton.
