Obituary from the Skiatook News:
Charles Leonard Barton was born December 4, 1859, at Clarence, Shelby county, Missouri, and died at Sperry, Oklahoma, in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Martha Bennett, on April 15, 1936, at the age of 76 years. For the past ten years of his life he had been a paralytic and finally succumbed to this malady. Being a man of action and work, it was a decided trial to him to be thus confined. Added to this affliction came the death of his devoted wife just a year after his stroke.
Thirty-eight years ago in October he left Missouri for Indian Territory, he driving one team hitched to a covered wagon, and the now Mrs. Ed Holland driving another. They made their first permanent stop just south of the old Ellingwood Ranch now known as the Stubbs Ranch. Mail was received only at Tulsa, then no larger if as large, as Skiatook. All the remainder of his life was spent in this community within a few miles of the original settlement. All of the family have grown up in this vicinity.
On March 8, 1883, he married his childhood sweetheart, Amanda E. Stohr, and to this union were born six children, all of whom are yet living. They are as follows: Mrs. Ed Holland, Skiatook; Mrs. H. E. Bennett, Sperry; W. L. Barton, Sperry; Mrs. Homer Hogue, Sperry; Fred Barton, Sperry; and Mrs. Don Daniels, Skiatook. There are fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Early in life he united with the Methodist Episcoal Church and was a continuous member of it all his life, being denied the privilege of attendance by his illness in the later years of his life.
For over twenty-five years of his life he was an Odd Fellow and was presented with a Past Grand pin. He was a consistent lodge man, attended lodge when it was a sacrifice. His organizational life meant much to him. He was always eager to talk about his church or his lodge.
He came of a family of eleven children and was orphaned at the tender age of three by the Civil War. While his life was a continuous struggle he managed to get the most out of it.
There survive him a brother and two sisters: S. P. Barton of Joplin, Missouri and Mrs. Kate Johnston North Dakota and Mrs. Sarah Wood of California.
Burial was in the Sperry Cemetery. Services from the L. D. S. Church.
Mrs. Owens sang a solo and the L.D.S. Church furnished two numbers.
Cornelius Bowles of Skiatook, M.E. Church was in charge of the services assisted by the pastor of the L.D.S. Church, Rev. Rumsey.

Obituary: Skiatook News
Amanda Stohr was born in Shelby County, Missouri, October 14th, 1862. She was married to Charles L. Barton, March 8th, 1883. To this union six children were born: Vena May Holland, of Drumright, [Creek?] Oklahoma, Martha Ellen Bennet, William L. Barton, Sarah Catharine Hogue, John F. Barton, all of Sperry, Oklahoma, and Laura Mina Daniels of Skiatook, Oklahoma. Sister Barton departed this life Sunday morning, February 27th, 1927, at her home in Sperry, all of her family being with her when the end came. She was 64 years, 4 months and 13 days old.
Beside her husband and children she is survived by two brothers, G. F. Stohr of Hominy, Oklahoma, and J. R. Stohr of Fresno, California, also a sister, Mrs. Clarence N. Dicks of Clarence, Missouri, together with neices, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
At an early age she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and always lived a consistent Christian life, and when the time came for her departure she had the blessed assurance of life eternal with her Saviour whom she loved and served. She was very much devoted to her family and friends, and never tired of trying to lighten the burden of others. In her passing the community at large has lost a true friend, and good neighbor, and a citizen of noble purpose and sterling integrity. She will be sadly missed and long remembered.

I was looking through this really old tall thin book...ledger, I think. It
was packed in Mae Barton Holland's trunk and stored for over 50 years. The
cover and first few pages are in pieces. It had a couple of recipes of sorts
and then what looked like blank pages. So I started in the back and there
are several recipes and remedies for things like croupe and diptheria. I
then came to more blank pages but kept going. Toward the middle of the book
in very beautiful handwriting is a list of children and birthdates of children
of Daniel Weeden Barton, and of him and his wife. Believe journal dates to
1800s as there is a place to put date and has the number 18__.
