According to J. W. Wilbarger "Indian Deprivations in Texas," p. 618, Eakin Press, Statehouse Books, Austin, Texas (1985). A Baker Barton was killed by Indians while serving with Major Ed Burleson (then Lieutenant Burleson) in a detachment of Texas Rangers near the Nueces River on the San Antonio and Laredo Road in December of 1850 -- just before Christmas. Baker Barton received three mortal wounds, and died on his feet grasping the horn of his saddle.
The only Baker Barton that I can think of is the son of J. Benjamin Barton and Zilpha Baker.
