CAPTAIN JOHN BARTON
John may have been the brother of David who md. Ruth Oldham and Thomas who md. Sarah Wilson. John married Rhoda. They may have lived in Franklin Co., GA for a while. There are several land transactions involving a John Barton, but that may have been a different John with wife, Delpha (or Delphy). Caleb, Benjamin, Ruth, Presley, Thomas, Lewis and many others also had land transactions in Franklin Co., GA.
I have a list of unsubstantiated children for John. One of his descendants, Ben, doubts the authenticity of this list so I will only include those children Ben has documented according to Bible records.
According to descendant, Ben <Explor6923@aol.com>, John's three sons were:
John, Jr.
William
Lewis
Ben also stated that he believed Caleb was not a descendant as some lists suggest. He said there might have been a son, Benjamin, which I also have on my list from another source--Ruth (Barton) Coleman.
Ben said he believed John's family was from Surry Co., NC before they migrated to SC.

...Capt. John Barton...lived in Franklin County, Georgia. He was a Revolutionary soldier and is said to be buried in South Carolina. His wife was Rhoda _____ and he had three sons,ie, John, Jr., William, and Lewis according to Bible records. Capt. John served in the Georgia Legislature from Franklin Co.
The only son of John's I have any information on is Lewis and he died in Carroll Co., GA in 1831. His family remained in the area. I have found John's family in Surry Co., NC before they miagrated to SC. There was John, William, Henry and Benjamin Barton in the area. The Thrashers and Welborns who married into the David O. Barton line were also there...Any help would be appreciated.
