The James Carroll found on the 1830 Orange County census and the 1840 Orange County census is an old man, most likely the James Carroll who died in 1842. His will, dated 8 March 1842 and proved in the May 1842 court, gives his wife's name as Polly.
The location of James and Nancy Barton Carroll in 1830 and 1840 is not known.
