THE DESCENDANTS OF WILLIAM H. AND MARTHA WEAVER BARTON?
We have pondered this question for a few years. Well, here is a summary of the data collected to date. A Tomb Stone in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery is inscribed "In Sacred Memory of Martha Barton formally Weaver was born Oct 30 1840 AD died March 28 1871 AD age 30 yrs 4 months 28 day". The next Tomb Stone is inscribed "Peter Weaver husband of Armindia Weaver Apr 6, 1812 Dec. 25, 1877". Peter and Martha Barton are buried next to one another. Martha E. Weaver is buried on his other side. Armindia Weaver (2nd wife of Peter) is buried in a grave in the same plot.

I had a telephone conversation with Jimmy R. Barton, the son of Samuel Dewey Barton. He said his great grand parents were William H. and Martha Weaver Barton. His father told him his grandfather died as POW and his grand mother Martha was not buried in Tennessee. Samuel did not know what war. They were from Winston Co., AL. His grand parents were Marion Henry and Mary F. Chamberless Barton. W.H. had a brother Jack J. Barton and he married Dolly Chamberless the sister of Mary F. Chamberless Barton. This made the children double first cousins. He also said Jack J. and family moved to Oklahoma and he died there. Marion H. and Mary F. lived in Lawrence Co., Loretta, TN. After Mary F. died he married again. His 2nd wife was Ida Barton b. 1872 d. 1952 Lauderdale Co., AL. They are buried at Grassy Cemetery in Lauderdale Co., Grassy, AL. Their graves are surrounded by the Hammond Family. This could be the maiden name of Ida Barton.

You ask how we can state J.J. and M.H. Barton are the grandsons of Peter and Martha Weaver. We know that Henry Weaver and Martha Weaver Barton are siblings. They are the children of Peter and Martha Weaver. Also J.J. Barton is listed in the 1880 Winston Co., Al census in the household of Henry Weaver as nephew. J.J. and M.H. are brothers! Would this not make them the grandsons of Peter and Martha Weaver?
